Probate isn’t like other types of litigation. Rather than striving to prove someone guilty or determine who’s right or wrong, probate seeks to accomplish one noble thing: carry out the wishes of the deceased. Although I work with clients to minimize or eliminate the need for probate, sometimes it is necessary.
One of my favorite parts of being an attorney is the honesty of presenting in court. What I mean by this is that I enjoy doing what’s right and letting the truth speak for iteself. I believe we are blessed to live in a country that allows us to have that opportunity.
Although those going through probate are often facing a difficult time, I attempt to bring calm to the waters by focusing on the facts and protecting the desires of their loved ones.
I would argue that most people going through probate also appreciate these virtues. It can be a very healing process. Although at times it is emotional, at the end, clients often report feeling a sense of closure and satisfaction from fulfilling the wishes of their friend or family member. It isn’t always an easy journey, but when it is necessary it is worth doing right.
